Bengkung Belly Binding
Honoring your postpartum body with gentle support, grounding, and sacred tradition.
Bengkung Belly Binding is a traditional Malaysian practice that offers the postpartum body a sense of stability, warmth, and deep physical support during the early weeks after birth. This method uses a long, handcrafted wrap that is gently tied from your hips to just below your chest, providing a full-body embrace that supports your core, pelvic floor, and overall healing.
At Haley’s Holistic Birth, this offering is approached with care, intention, and respect for the cultural lineage it comes from. Each session is designed to help you feel held, nurtured, and reconnected to your center during a time of immense transformation.
What Is Bengkung Belly Binding?
Bengkung binding is traditionally used during the first 1–6 weeks postpartum to help the body recover after pregnancy. Unlike modern Velcro wraps, Bengkung provides fully customizable support that molds gently to your changing body and can be adjusted for comfort each day.
This practice may support:
Core and abdominal muscle recovery
Posture and spinal alignment
Pelvic floor support
Feeling of stability and grounding
Comfort after a vaginal or cesarean birth (once cleared to bind)
Emotional wellbeing and a sense of being held
The process is slow, intentional, and deeply comforting, offering both physical and emotional nourishment.

When Can I Start Belly Binding?
Belly binding can begin as early as 24–48 hours after a vaginal birth.
For cesarean births, binding is typically recommended once your incision has healed enough and your care provider gives the go ahead.
This practice can continue daily for several weeks, or even months supporting your body as it slowly reconnects and strengthens.
Why Families Love Bengkung Belly Binding
This practice is not just physical—it is deeply emotional and symbolic. Many birthing people describe belly binding as:
Feeling “put back together”
A soothing ritual during the early days
A grounding way to reconnect with their body
A gentle support for posture, movement, and recovery
A cherished part of their postpartum healing
It is a moment of care, stillness, and remembrance of your strength.
